When you do yoga…

  • Your brain cells develop new connections which improve cognitive skills (learning and memory)

  • You strengthen parts of the brain that play a key role in memory, attention, awareness, thought, and language

  • You strengthen your muscles and bones by using your body against gravity

  • You can improve your balance by strengthening your stability muscles

All exercise can help to improve your mood, but yoga…

  •  Can affect mood by elevating levels of a brain chemical which is associated with better mood and decreased anxiety

Yoga and meditation also reduces activity in the limbic system—the part of the brain that is dedicated to emotions
